Back in the day (someone’s day) TV stations signed off for the night. Well, TV Girl’s signal never goes out.

Agreed it’s been a long minute since we’ve had the pleasure of hearing something new from San Diego, CA-based duo TV Girl (they’re mixtape The Wild, The Innocent, The TV Shuffle (2012) was a total gas)but that doesn’t mean they (Trung Ngo and Brad Petering) aren’t hard at work. According to sources they have a new EP coming out soon, not to mention the spectacular Coma Cinema they’ve helped record. Check this, whilst we wait, albeit impatiently, for the new songs the duo has put together a Spring Break playlist for Found Footage Mag. classixx // holding on + borderline + video

In regards to the band Classixx two is the lucky number.

From the Los Angeles-based duo Classixx (Michael David and Tyler Blake) check out the first tracks from their soon (May 14th, 2013) to drop debut album Hanging Gardens. Both songs, Holding On and Borderline, have a bouncy vibrancy which is well suited for the coming Spring. The songs are now available before the complete album drops via iTunes. Peace.

The album Who Needs Who by the Minnesotan band Dark Dark Dark was one of a few hidden gems which was released last year but it may have flew below your radar. The good thing about penning a music blog is the ability to rectify those lapses in musical exposure (lol). Seriously though, the track How It Went Down is rife with introspection coiled sweetly around sweet somber sound. Vocalist Nona Marie Invie sings with such honesty it would be impossible to shade the truth whilst under her spell. The albums first single release Tell Me is just as beautifully effective. The Lost At Sea EP by the Swedish band With A Light Heart is a basket full of songs perfect for a walk along coastal environs or a languid drive without any specific destination in mind. Also, this release of four simple, yet beautiful songs feels bigger than the some of its parts. The songs have a sweeping and epic character which rolls like a cleansing and rising tide in the bowl of your eardrums. Here, in the endless diameter of sound is human intimacy radiating gloriously. Each song is imbued with the spectacular essence of the warming sunrise, and by the albums end the moon too is full to bursting with solemn thanks of gratitude. Word is the band recorded it’s new EP in a loft and in a church in Bua, a small quaint village on the west coast of Sweden. How fitting then or telling because these songs have the inner-workings of hymnals and a spirituality which touches your soul like the soothing hand of grace. Phoenix is reborn anew… proving once again that even bad puns are spot on.

It is so good to hear new material from one of the most exciting bands making music today. No doubt you can’t go wrong with Phoenix, and their latest single “Entertainment,” is full to bursting with pop music euphoria. The bands’ forthcoming album ‘Bankrupt‘ is out April 22nd and you can pre-order it exclusively on iTunes. Peace.

A song so slow and sweet it leaves scratches upon my soul’s back.

Chelsea Jade Metcalf is Watercolours and the track Under, melts like slow dripping icicles licked tenderly by winter sunshine… GAH! Metaphors can be so naught,y but luckily the music is pristine and genuine. After the jump check out the lyrics too. Peace.

houses // beginnings

And the song whispered something secret to me… and I was healed.

The music duo Houses (Dexter Tortoriello and Megan Messinais) is many things. The songs are contradictions too: a coalesced vibratory stillness which resonates the secret longings of timidity as it finds its strength to reach for everything. The song “Beginnings,” enters your ear like the echo of falling flower petal. Yet, once nestled within your inner ear it does something else too, it dies and it blooms simultaneously. Dexter’s vocals stretch deep roots as fragile as unrequited longing into sun, moon and stars and beyond. This one stays with you long after silence has filled the space of its distant yearning. Although the album ‘A Quiet Darkness‘ via Downtown Records is set for an April 16th release I am hopeful for more soon, real soon. Peace.

Upstate New York peddlers of great music This Old Ghost, have gone fashioned another wonderful collection of songs filled with all the characteristic whimsical charm we’ve come to expect from this good-natured quintet. From the lovey dovey heart of a slightly nostaligic Christopher Owens comes a nice little jingle to mingle around your earlobe. The track is “Here We Go Again,” and you can hear as much as you please on his debut solo album ‘Lysandre‘, no release date as of yet, but when I know you’ll know. Peace.

New material from the Gothenburg, Sweden-based Junip is always reason to get up out of your seat and shout heavenward. 2013 is off to a pretty good start when you can listen to José González and company performing their first single release “Line Of Fire“.
